Pine yard through residential area near the Atlantic coast

Played on September 3rd, 2021. The mostly flat 18-hole course (cart not required) is located in close proximity to the Atlantic coast a little west of the Andalusian city of Huelva in the middle of El Portil. Unfortunately, the sea cannot be seen from any of the fairways. In principle, the square runs through a quiet residential area, with several streets being crossed. Therefore the carts also have lighting, indicators and horn! The fairways are lined with mighty pine trees, which occasionally like to stand in the middle of the fairway. Due to the ingrown trees, one or the other tee is sometimes a bit narrower. A couple of doglegs and two water hazards that come into play at 1 and 11 are the only highlights. The really big challenges are missing. If the way from 10 to 11 is still well signposted, the signs from 17 to 18 are completely missing. The lady in the ProShop pointed this out on a map provided. Yes, there are some not so pretty fences, but they make sense too! The condition of the greens was unfortunately marginal in our game. Lots of bald spots and bumps, but extremely soft (were also briefly watered during our round). The fairways were mostly good for that. One or the other discount a bit worn but still OK bunkers are available in a manageable number and overall they were okay. The cart paths were sometimes extremely bumpy. At tee 4 there is the only toilet on the round, but it can also be reached via a small bridge a little before the green of 12. Incidentally, green 9 does not end at the clubhouse, but at the other end of the course. The game on a sunny Friday afternoon was very manageable. We had reserved a start time by email (unfortunately not possible online via the homepage). We received confirmation relatively quickly. We were then about 30 minutes before the time and could start playing straight away. Neither in front of nor behind us did we hit 18 lanes of fellow players. The Spaniards tend to play in the mornings when it is still a little cooler and foreign tourists are at least rarely to be found at the moment. So there is also a sundowner tariff from 2 p.m. for a mercilessly cheap € 25. The current standard green fee of 65 € is currently at least too high due to the condition of the greens. You can also buy a discounted 10-pass card. The clubhouse is more likely to be the reception and restaurant of the attached hotel. The pro shop with the golf secretariat is located in the basement (signs would not be bad). The lady in the office was busy and friendly. We wanted to play with cart, we got it, but not cleaned and with a broken scorecard holder. But it lasted 18 holes. But even for this we probably only paid the 9-hole price as compensation. We didn't see the driving range at first, but it's across the street from the clubhouse. Overall, you shouldn't expect too much, possibly the round is very suitable for starting your vacation.

No action

Care condition very good. The place is fair, not really long. The tracks have many doglegs and are bounded on both sides by pines, which come into play on each hole. That he leads through the settlement Nuevo Portil does not really bother. recommendable

Beautiful Place

... so we thought the Nuevo Portil is a nice old golf course! Along beautiful thick pine trees, the fairways lead through a beautiful old residential complex. A really lovely and flat place that you can play nice and easy to handle on foot! I have only noticed the safety nets on two fairways, you have disturbed us zero! :-)))

Can you play...

We played the course (hcp -4 / -20) several times at the end of January because it was included in our apartment package for free.
The reviews I had read before and was prepared for a narrow place with building.
It's tight indeed. The driver got stuck all the time.

To place state:
The previous speakers speak of "full" fairways. They probably played another place. About 40% of the existing area is covered with green grass. At home we would say ..: Always better put duty!
The greens, on the other hand, were good, albeit very slowly.
The bunkers are just sandboxes with plenty of building sand, partially ankle deep.

While it was difficult to get good Teetimes on the surrounding squares, the place here is almost empty (apart from the Scandinavian Enclave which lives here in winter and from 11:00 with five to six 4-flights the place quasi "slow down") says a lot about the popularity of the place.
Greenkeeping I have seen in the 5 days only 1 time. Marshal never.

The super friendly Gastro is unfortunately only from 13:30 to 18:00 o'clock (the offer minimal, but very delicious), since the operating hotel only in mid-February opens.

To complete the sentence of the title: ... you do not have to!

Nice cheap vacation spot

We played the course in late November 2017. The course is demanding and not boring. The condition was good, fairways and greens full and well maintained. As the fairways partly pull through residential complexes, fishing nets are unfortunately unavoidable. However, this does not affect the overall positive impression.
Bad signage to find the golf shop in the basement over Buggyweg.
Gastronomy not open anymore.
About justteetimes. com cheap green fee. Top

If one were to give trouble...

We have just played Pinhal in Vilamoura, which has a very similar characteristic. In the middle of a resort, narrow lanes, precise play, no special challenges. But here, instead of the trees as protection, high-rise fishing nets are installed, which protects, but does not look very pretty. There is almost no signposting to the next tea, the bunker is rather to be seen as excavation and the condition is moderate.
If one were to make an effort, the place would have a lot of potential. But so it is rather moderate, although the golf game can be quite fun.

Pleasant vacation Place

We spent our vacation in May 2015 in the hotel of the golf club and were very pleased with the overall package. The course is challenging, even after repeated game and not get bored. The condition is very good, fairways and greens well fed and well cared for. As the fairways partially by residential complexes, nets can not be avoided. However, this does not affect the positive overall impression.

Not fun

We were in June 2014 is. The huge nets disfigure the landscape, both for the players and for the residents.

Nice vacation place

Have played a few rounds here in May 2013. Course condition was very good. Fairways are also in dry soft-Extra length is not present! A few bunkers and almost no water. For this you can be dogleg game and try to train, length and height (the pine are always right) to combine. Rough is replaced by layers below the pine-exciting moments guaranteed. Fairways more narrow the extreme proximity to the tw. by networks protected cottages was very used to, but only plays a role at some tracks. The Hotel Nuevo Portil deserves special mention-very recommended!

Unspectacular

We played the course in February 2012 2x. After weeks of drought was the place in borderline Plegezustand. The greens were just about acceptable (like concrete), the fairways but bone dry and yellow in many places. At the edge of the tracks partially no more grass. As in many other places in the region is also noted here that the lack of money for a professional course maintenance.

Otherwise, the place is pretty unspectacular and rather short. There were two in less than 3.5 h through. As so often in Spain to play partially between "urban canyons". As a result, the tracks are quite narrow and you Solte the fairways and greens make good.

Given the favorable green fees but the place is quite acceptable and after some rain also safe in better condition.

The space associated with the hotel is highly recommended by the way outstanding and without restrictions. Such a beautiful hotel with only 60 rooms is rarely found in Andalusia.

Without proper highlights

The course was recorded in February, 2011 by me in a total of 6 days. Fairways and greens were in good condition. The exercise options are pretty limited. On the driving range practicing for example, was prohibited with wood because the range had no sufficient length. Some of the buildings comes very close to the fairways and is protected with huge networks, which is not a very pretty sight. In sharp contrast, the area offers many visual stimuli. All in all a rather average place with no real highlights. Ideal for a holiday with the family in the attached hotel.
