I played the course on the Monday after the Omega European Masters. The condition of the place was accordingly excellent! The course is beautifully situated on a plateau in Crans-Montana. Most of the holes have breathtaking views of the mountains. The one point deduction is for the clubhouse. For a DP World Tour place, the standard should actually be higher.

This year we got the opportunity to play Crans again: Despite the many rainy phases, the course is already in excellent condition in the run-up to the Omega European Masters. We enjoyed the ambiance and the feeling of being on a course where the "really big" players will compete in two weeks' time to have reached one or the other par was special. What unfortunately does not do justice to the place is the clubhouse. Old and neglected, the toilets the last. And then the kitchen. Not only is the price-performance ratio not right here, but the kitchen is really bad. Here it is worth walking a few meters and going to a nearby restaurant.

We played the Balllesteros course in Crans in July 2021 and cannot understand the good ratings. First of all, the course is overrated - neither the contouring nor the obstacles made it particularly interesting (Leuk was much nicer down in the Rhone Valley, which we also played).
The worst thing in Crans, however, was that we had a few senior four-man flights in front of us during an afternoon round, which played so slowly that up to 4 flights (!) The reputation - which precedes it - obliges, one expects a lot. We were not disappointed. It is a demanding, exciting and tricky course. The greens are too, were in very good shape, played hard, fast, very well - they delivered several 3 stalemates. A few flag positions had the character of final rounds.
Care and maintenance, as one would wish from such courses. The only thing we complain about are some bunkers with too little sand and a lot of stones - especially hole 13, the stadium hole.
The score was not as hoped, some balls went diving in the new ponds or found the deep bunkers. A teammate counted the green bunkers, there are 31. He hit - and tested - almost half of them - only three greens have no bunkers.
We were here once in the mid-1990s, long before the renovation. The notes tell us that it was wet and cold, the score really bad. We hadn't registered at the time that there was skiing on this site in winter. To play golf you have to dismantle the cable of the lift systems.
We really enjoyed the laps and the clubhouse. The old part reminds us of Ireland or Scotland. The newer part is like an ancestral gallery - great painted pictures. Very courteous staff.
No question for everyone - five stars for the Ballesteros Course.

A big name as a golfer and designer designed this narrow - sometimes very narrow - course. There are some decent handrail transitions. The par 4s are mostly below average, the greens too, therefore difficult to play.
The care and maintenance at these altitudes is demanding in order to provide the player with a good course, but cannot keep up with the Ballesteros course. In comparison, he is in a deep slumber. The greens were very good.
All of us have three stars for this course - some things are not what we imagined and hoped for.

Due to the Corona crisis, we decided to go on a Golf Tour de Suisse. The highlight should of course be Crans s. Be Sierre. Unfortunately it wasn't: no other place on our tour (totally 7) was in worse shape: greens and fairway were neglected, similar to the toilets on the circuit and in the clubhouse. Furthermore, we had to discover on the way that 3 holes were only partially playable (tee or green blocked). Unfortunately we were not informed about this before the game and since we booked and paid online we were charged the full green fee. The answer in the secretariat to our complaint was that we were unlucky! I received no response to my written intervention with the club manager! Playing on this golf course is probably only recommended after visiting the European Tour. Too bad, but luckily this experience was the exception on our tour in Switzerland!

This September we played in fine autumn weather, the 18-hole Severiano Ballesteros.
