Characteristics
The outstanding course is situated in the middle of a nature reserve between Sintra and Cascais. The first and last three holes are situated in a valley, lined by pine trees and granite rocks. The holes 6 to 13 spread over a hill and over a wide view on the environment. Penha Longa is concordantly clled one of the Portugal's best course by profi-golfers.

…the course was absolutely wet. Even during our approach to Lisbon yesterday, there were torrential rains and hurricane-force winds. Today, partly due to the three weeks of rain, the course is extremely boggy, with many uprooted trees and a high rough surface because it couldn't be mown. Course conditions today are only worthy of a two-star rating, but even the greenkeepers are powerless against this dismal weather.
Extremely beautiful fairways, very undulating greens, well-placed bunkers; yes, in dry weather this would be a fantastic course.

We have played the course several times. Cracking this course from the back tees is a challenge even for scratch players.
The greens are often higher, undulating, and have a good pace. Some putts are moved, providing an additional challenge.
The place gives you the feeling of being in a tropical area and offers beautiful natural perspectives - simply wonderful.
Worth a recommendation.
The only thing that can be said to be disturbing is the nearby car racing track, which you can hear very loudly. The track is apparently only used on weekends.
