Characteristics
Newburgh-on-Ythan Golf Club was founded in 1888 on the Udny links, is set against a dramatic backdrop of the Ythan Estuary, the North Sea and the ever-changing dunes of the Sands of Forvie National Nature Reserve, and is just 3km up the coast from Trump International Golf Links, Scotland.
The course has enormous variety, with every hole presenting a different challenge, and great fun to play (so says Golf World which ranked Newburgh as number 32 in their listing of “fun courses” in Great Britain and Ireland). A true hidden gem.
Welcoming to visitors, tee-times are available throughout the week including Saturday mornings.
The club boasts a modern and spacious clubhouse where a warm welcome awaits and golfers can relax and enjoy the spectacular vista.

Played at the end of August with a lot of wind but no rain. Great mix. The first nine is a bit more modern, the second nine is old fashioned, a great links course. Very well maintained despite the bad weather. Some great blind holes on the second nine. The course is worth coming back to.

The first nine are the new holes, supposedly built in 1996, the back nine are the true links classics, wild and original. Links feeling in its purest form. Blind tees, hilly fairways, old bunkers, simply great.
The par 72 would not be too difficult even from the back, white tees; better knowledge of the course would be required, but there was only a light breeze.
Course maintenance okay, bunkers easy to play, greens impeccable, not too fast but okay.
