Two top 100 courses within one drive length, sensational...
Fred Couples was a very good playing pro - boom boom Fredy, his nickname in the player scene, because of his length from the tee - here, together with Gene Bates, he gave his maturity as a course designer.
Couples Bates Golf Design was founded in the early 1990's and designed a number of award winning courses. Bates used to work with Jack Nicklaus.
Introducing Couples as a player is actually superfluous. There's one brand that's exceptional, he's made the cut more than twenty times without a break at Augusta, only Gary Player is in front of the sun...
Great course that is challenging to play - especially back tees - several holes have par 4 with more than 400 meters. You can clearly see the handwriting of the playing pro, the difficulties are built into the drive landing zone - at 220 to 280 meters - the bunkers lurking on the edge. If you land in it, it becomes very difficult, partly high bunker edges, it is almost impossible to play a long iron.
It's a course that literally calls for the driver... wide, very wide fairways.
Some of the tracks have proper undulations, as do the greens. These are absolutely top, excellent to play, the ball speed is very high... Most have very large dimensions, the holes 7 and 11 as a double green with the bunker in the middle. Many greens are very well defended, the par 5 is extreme, the long hitter who wants to reach the green in two shots must be very safe. If not, the par becomes difficult and you end up in one of the bunkers.
The first nine holes, especially those along the bay, are quite noisy, the US 293 and the Air Force jets taking off from the nearby Base Eglin are responsible for this.

We really enjoyed playing here, no balls deposited - space was plentiful but the score on the greens wasted.

Beautiful place on the bay

We played Kelly Plantation in May 2016. As is customary in the USA, the cart is included in the green fee. The place is located in a resort, only 3 holes go along the Choctawatchee Bay overlooking the Mid Bay Bridge, the rest are located in the resort with lots of water hazards. The staff at the clubhouse was nice and helpful. The starter supplies one with enough teas. The place was in good condition, wide fairways, nice to play.
