Characteristics
The fairways of the course are mostly wavey and possess several water and sandy hazards. What particularly distinguishes this course is the breathtaking beauty of the landscape: the 18 emerald green holes seem to be caught in the black of the lava hills. The most difficult hole is the eleventh, a narrow, 387 m long par 4 with water on the right side and an out on the left side of the fairway.

Scenic Golf by the Etna

I played on 27 December, a cold sunny day under the snowed Etna. The experience was rewarding - a fantastic round of golf almost alone on the course, except towards the end when we hit traffic. Their landlines were out of order, so I had to take a chance and drive to the resort without a tee time and pay cash, 80 Euros for the green fee and 40 Euros for the cart. They accommodated me very easily. The drive from Taormina, some 45 minutes, is a nerve-wrecking chicken game when you cross trucks and other cars through the narrow streets of the villages on the road to Castiglione. But all, the price, the drive and the risk were really worth it! The course is well appointed, with demanding tee shots that require accuracy with the driver. Several holes are scenic and exciting. The course is balanced and makes for a fun experience amidst olive and lemon trees, old farmhouse stone fences, and black volcanic sand. All the way, the towering white Etna presides over your game. Unforgettable!

We play the course in May 2023. The condition was very good, greens neat but not overly fast. The course is varied, slightly hilly and has some very nice tees in the sometimes narrow fairways. In addition, a partial view of Mount Etna, so that it was a very nice day of golf overall.

If you leave the course after 18 holes and have a good feeling because you played a wonderful round of golf, then the course deserves 5 stars. And that's exactly how it was. The first 9 holes are a bit average. The second 9 holes, on the other hand, have it all. At lane 10, a blind tee over a hedge - as in Phoeben lane 8, or for equestrian athletes Pulvermanns-Grab at the Hamburg Derby. Almost all tracks from the 9 are really varied, difficult and just fun.
The course is about 650 meters above sea level. Coming from Naxos or Catania it is an exciting road up into the mountains. You have a good view of Mount Etna from almost every hole - if it is not covered by clouds. It's like playing on cooled lava. The grass is thin and short. It had rained little until March 2022.
I was able to play my round with a very pleasant club member. I got the impression that the club management is pushing the hotel and golf club forward with events and lots of ideas. The parking lot was full, two courses made their handicap. Thank you for a great day on the green!!
