Characteristics
The south course impresses with its eucalyptus trees, stone pines and Jacaranda trees, which can be found in high numbers in the hilly area. The courses are very narrow and therefor relatively difficult to play. The north course on the other hand is also very neat, but not quite as commendable for playing.

My favourite club on the coast

I have been playing both Guadalmina South and North regularly over the past 10 years and every time I get to the 10th and 11th hole on the South, I get goose bumps with its views of the ocean and the open space right along the beach of the par 3 11th. Depending on the wind, you get to hit anything between a 4 iron and a pitching wedge. There is just no other hole like it on the Coast.
The unique setting apart, I noticed that both the courses and the overall installations have been improving a lot over the years. There is now a modern Pro-shop and caddymaster, good practice facilities (albeit the Driving range could be longer for today's big hitters) and an excellent Restaurant. Also, quite liked the Tortilla in the little kiosk right between holes 6 and 14.
Now that the Ladies European Tour has chosen the course for the 2017 Ladies Spanish Open, I believe the quality of the place will only continue to improve.
The North course is very narrow and quite a few houses are close, but I always find it very entertaining as it is shorter and provides a lot of birdie opportunities.

Those who have neither PE, PR, HCP or nothing at all play here. Apart from a top tank and ultra short shorts. Judging by the language, many of the guests are from the East. Bawling beer groups with girls who only leave the buggy for a look are normal. The condition is alarming compared to other courses in the region. Bunkers like concrete, fairways already brown in February because they are not watered and tee boxes that have never seen a roller. There is also no ranger, but if there was one, many "golfers" would no longer come to this course. Playing time is at least 5 hours! Have fun!!!

We played this course at the invitation of a member. When you enter the unattractive clubhouse, you are first informed by signs that access is only permitted to members. We usually respond to such arrogance by leaving the club immediately. The only thing that stopped us was the fact that we had arranged to meet a club member.
We played the supposedly better south course. The reduced (!) green fee was €72 per person without cart. The course is completely flat, has very little to offer in terms of sport and is absolutely not impressive. However, the condition was okay. There are many more exciting and at the same time cheaper golf clubs on the Costa del Sol. This club won't see us again.
