Characteristics
The Golfclub Schmallenberg is situated on an area of 120 ha, in the middle of one the most beautiful landscapes of the Central German Uplands. Its most prominent aspects are an altitude between 415 and 510 m, a bracing climate and a sunny high plateau, which offers panoramic views on the Hunau and Rothaar mountains. It is a manicured course, which has been arranged in close touch with nature, and its holes have been built in a way that now provides the most beautiful views on the landscape. I played the three times 9 holes at the end of July 2022. Due to the weather, the fairways are sometimes a bit dry. The discounts and the greens are very well maintained. We had a nice companion from home who pointed out a few details to us in a meaningful way. You can walk all day with a daily green fee of €75. Due to the beautiful design of the place there is no boredom. I will definitely come back.

Courses west, east and north played on 3/3/2021. The 27-hole course with an additional 6-hole short course is located near the winter sports resort Winterberg, in the Sauerland in the middle of nowhere in absolute peace and nature. It is a few kilometers of winding country roads to the next motorway (A 4.45 or 46). Some renovation work is currently taking place, e.g. a new terrace in front of the 9th green of the west course. The pro shop is located in the clubhouse itself, where you also pay the green fee. The employee was friendly. The restaurant (closed / toilets under the clubhouse near the caddy rooms) makes a solid impression from the outside. I paid a very cheap 45 € (winter price, despite summer greens) daily green fee and was able to play all 27 holes with it. You need tee times that you can easily book online, even as a guest. The game operation on a warm and sunny spring Wednesday afternoon was manageable. Lt. A very nice member, with whom I was allowed to play together, is currently missing the Dutch holidaymakers, who otherwise frequent the facility very much. So we were able to enjoy the lap relaxed and without pressure from behind and forwards. The maintenance condition was not yet optimal due to the season, but basically okay. The greens unfortunately have an unsightly mushroom, but were still playable. The grass on the fairways was a bit too long and the rough next to the fairways was partially repaired with sand. Price / performance ratio was completely in line with the time of year. The toilets on the course in the form of large golf balls are an eye-catcher. From some railways you have very nice views of the Sauerland. The topography is hilly to mountain goat. If things are still smooth on the west course, it increases on the east course and reaches its climax on the north course, so that at least on the east and especially on the north a cart is urgently recommended for those who are not quite as sporty. On the north course there is one or the other stretch to the next tee. There are some nice raised haircuts in compensation. The most blatant here is certainly the first tee on the north course (felt like 100 meters downhill at an angle) and the second tee on the east course. Every now and then, water hazards come into play, sometimes in the form of streams, where strategic decisions should be made. Doglegs, a few exclusions that have to be observed, isolated blind strokes and small forest aisles, as well as some well-placed bunkers complete the game, so that you never get bored. Due to the mostly very open tees, high HC should also be able to handle most courses. The majority of the members met greeted them in a friendly manner and you can tell that an active club life is taking place here. Anyone who loves scenic, sporty challenging places and does not expect a noble meadow, is in the right place in Schmallenberg.
