I played Glyfada Golf Course 2.11.2022 and I enjoyed a lot. I liked the course, expecially the greens were really ok. In my playing one of the main things are atmosphere. When I arrived to the course, I walked to the restaurant and had a bier. Then I headed to the caddiemaster and explained, that this Finnish golfer would like to play a round, but I have no clubs with me (I been island hopping three weeks). Well... they gave me equipments. I started playing alone, but after a while I reached two Greek gentlemen. One of them went away after lane 9, but with Filippos I played the whole round. Thx Filippos for your company and thx Glyfada Golf. I had a memorable vidit and I surely come back someday...

Better Days at Glyfada Golf Course

This was once a wonderful golf course! It is a flat course close to the old Athens Airport with pine tree lined fairways, little rough and bunkers. The pine trees were the distinguishing part of the course since lost balls in the trees was a common occurrence. However once local governments became involved it went downhill fast. I played many wonderful rounds in casual and tournament play beginning in the 1980's thru the 90's and was proud to be a active member. Now its not worth the effort unless you are a captive golfer in Athens since its still the only place to play without traveling to the other wonderful (but few in number) courses in Greece. In short give it a pass unless your desperate.

No alternative

If you are in Athens and don't want to drive far, you have to play here. We had reserved tee times. Everything worked out. We needed 3 sets of RH clubs. We had to pay for them in advance. We got them, but they were from the last century. The course is in a pitiful state. Yes, of course, I know, it's very hot here and so on... I understand all that. But then you have to adjust the prices accordingly. Anyway, it was a nice day of golf with friends who have known each other for a long time. The course itself is unspectacular and, as I said, in need of maintenance.

In 2020 there were new wastebaskets and benches...

...but that was probably the only major investment in recent years! Unfortunately the older comments are correct. The layout is typical Harradine, not particularly exciting, but good! But the condition of the course is terrible: all types of grass in Greece on the fairways (if there is grass), but also in the bunkers (instead of sand). Sure, good golfers should be able to handle all conditions, but a miserable condition is still a miserable condition! The small city green fee (€ 50.00 on weekdays) is no consolation. It would be nice for the club and the region to find someone to save the place soon!

Good design, well-groomed and fast greens
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed January 14, 2019
Hello dear golfers, my wife and I were in November 2018 five times in a row on the court. A good golf course. I am a PGA Golf Professional myself and I think I can judge. No waiting, few players. Friendly people.
The greens very well prepared and faithful. Of course, there are a few places due to the weather, which are not quite as well maintained. But they are also in the best seats.
A true golfer has to cope with every situation. He did not understand the game otherwise. Exceptions are the greens. They have to be well-kept and fast. That was 100% the case in Glyfada.
We will be back.

It is sad! The site has a lot of opportunities and potential but it is made from nothing. Perhaps if the Greeks better go back...

I was friendly!
1.0 of 5 starsReviewed February 8, 2014
First of all: I was not there. The telephone conversation kept me from. At first I wanted to reserve a tee time by email: days no answer. Then phone: I was friendly! In the morning at 11 referred to me very rude to 12 clock and gave me another phone number. As reported by 12 just a fax. So again called the first number. Now the secretary was totally annoyed and finally ended the conversation. Maybe it was at the German preselection... Anyway, why would I do a thing? The emotional state is so very crucial in golf!

Mourning

I played a round, beginning October 2011. You can feel how the place could be beautiful. Many beautiful old trees and an exciting layout. The driving range is a disaster, the place, and the fairways are well kept and partly moved by the Elektrocarts. One third of the greens has suffered from the heat. According to a member of the lack of a good greenkeeper and other maintenance personnel. The rent of Golfschägern is not recommended.
But who is in Athens and want to play golf, it's the only way.

Beautiful place, sad state
2.0 of 5 starsReviewed June 2, 2011
I do not know if it has to do with the general crisis in the Greek country, but the end of April 2011 was the really beautiful, mostly Pinienbeschirmte place in some pitiful state - especially the greens were dried up, dirty and extremely wavy - a real for the required green fees insolence.
